Couples Counselor in NC and SC

My Approach to Relationship Therapy

During my earlier years, I became strikingly aware of the trickle-down consequences that marriage problems have on the entire family structure. As I reflect back on those formative years, I've come to understand that amidst the persistent dysfunction within my family, I lacked the essential skills needed to approach and resolve family conflicts before they escalated. Had this been demonstrated, I would have manifested a foundation for long-term family harmony much earlier — such as nurturing resilience, adaptability, trust, and a feeling of belonging — all of which are crucial for confronting life's trials and sustain an enduring, happy marriage and family connection.

I came to realize how limited access was to specialized support for couples who were simultaneously struggling with navigating parenting hurdles & fizzled out connection. Through my experiences later in life as a veteran, wife, and mother, I encountered countless lost, stuck, and lifeless relationships. It was through my own lens of various relationships that ultimately inspired me to become an online and in-person marriage counselor for couples in NC and SC who are craving rediscovery of a warm, passionate, and thriving connection.

In my practice, we will collaborate to set an insightful course forward. While I may have a sense of what direction we’re headed, I rely on your input and valuable feedback so that we can pivot to what you’re needing more of at any given time. Through this approach, we will become curious about your experiences and find ways to build self-understanding. I highly value transparency and feedback, consistently ensuring that my approach aligns with your needs, enabling us to make adjustments together to reach new beginnings!

A Little About Me…

relationship therapy in North Carolina and South Carolina with couples counselor, marriage counselor, and relationship therapist Kimberly Keefer.

I am a mom of two witty kiddos, a proud wife, and a human to 3 goofy pets. Originally California-born and raised, I have planted roots in Tega Cay, SC. As a proud Marine Corps veteran, I hold a profound appreciation for the military and first responder communities.

In my ideal world, the perfect morning would start with a cinnamon spiced latte & book and end with family game time. I feel most alive and connected to my spirituality when walking barefoot on a beach, collecting shells at sunrise.

At home, you can find me playing basketball or throwing the football with my boys, or baking something for my family. While I like to think I’m on top of things, I tend to laugh at myself when I walk into a room looking for something that’s ironically in my hand!

In sessions, you may see me with one leg tucked under me, comfy & cozy with my warm tea. I deeply empathize with the struggles of perinatal/maternal mental health challenges, and thoroughly enjoy reviving your spark following this stage of life. If I hadn’t been a couple’s therapist, I would have opened a bakery to highlight my creative side!
